HOW TO POLISH ALUMINUM TUNNELS

The first thing you need to do is gather up some materials.  These include: an old tooth brush, a large can of mother mag aluminum polish, as many rag or socks as you can find, 400/600/1000 grit sand papers, brake cleaner, an old palm sander, and lots of elbow grease.  first take the brake cleaner and remove and sticky gum that is on the tunnel.  if you have a new decal set (highly recommended!) then remove the old decals and prep the surface with the cleaner.  next, take your 400 grit sand paper and completely remove any oxidation.  you won't get it all, but that is what the finer grits are for.  then work your way up to the 600.  please note that the 400 is just to "break off the high spots" don't go hog wild with it!  when using the 600 grit keep working it until the tunnel starts to get very smooth, almost like glass.  when this occurs move up to the 1000.  the 1000 grit is just to really even everything out.  one pass will do the trick.  you should spend the most time with the 600 grit.  once the sanding is done, run a clean sock or rag over the surface to get the dust off.  Then proceed with the mothers.  this will "magically" make the tunnel shine like a mirror.  however, it will take forever to do this by hand.  grab a palm sander (not the orbital ones) and place a rag on it.  apply some mothers to the tunnel, and go to town.  the more times you repeat the process the better it shines.  once you are done (depends how nutz you get!) wipe everything down really good with some clean rags.  switch rags as they turn black with the oxidation you removed.  switching rags also makes it shine brighter.  the tooth brush is to apply the mothers around any rivets that you didn't want to remove.  althought it is better just to take everything off.

WARNING: i am not responsible for anyone that damages their tunnel, decals, or serial number stickers because they tried the techniques i outlined above!  this is a low risk process that pretty much anyone can do.  just take it easy with the sand paper, take your time, do a good job, you will have the best looking tunnel ever.
